    So having watched the video now, here my critique: Comparing with other train review youtubers, this is way, way more detailed about the train itself and the station you departed from, and a lot less about the route you're traveling on. And I personally prefer these videos showing more about the route and the sights out of the window, the overall travel experience of the trip, and it was a bit too much about the interior for me. Regardless I did enjoy the extended section about the station though.

    11:56 perhaps there would be less congestion, if people payed attention to this detail. Most don't however. Generally for trains that are nearly booked out, boarding can be really a mess, often holding up trains causing delays. This seems particularily bad in stations with high traffic but comparatively low number of tracks, like Hamburg and Cologne.

    The ICE 4 program is finished: there will be no successor to the ICE4 neither in its current configuration in the XXXL version of 14 cars nor internationally to replace the ICE-3M or Velaro D bound for Paris. For comparison, the Siemens PowerTrain system, assembled like a construction set, which characterizes the ICE 4 reaches its limits in its different configurations L (composed of 7 cars), XL (composed of 12 cars), XXL (composed of 13 cars). The ICE 4 XL from the 2009 ICx project arrived in 2017, reached a top speed of 250 km/h and the commercial speed of the ICE4 XXL arrived in 2021 at the same time as the 30th anniversary celebrations of the first commercial service, on June 3, 1991, is increased to 265 km/h while the most recent ICE 4 L arriving simply in 2022 has a speed identical to the Talgo ICE L whose first commercial service to Amsterdam is postponed to the second quarter of 2025. Deutsche Bahn, which suffers from chronic delays in its schedules, therefore has no interest in continuing the long and tedious development like ICE4 with an ICE 5 of the same configuration. For this reason, the choice falls on the ICE3 velaro neo. The ICE 3 neo (408 series) is not new, but an improved multi-system version of the ICE 3 Velaro D (407 series) based on the same platform as an ICE-3M (406 series). The trains were assigned to the ICE 3 fleet of the 300 km/hour Fleet of DB Fernverkehr. and called ICE 3 neo. The manufacturer of these ICE 3s, Siemens Mobility, calls them Velaro MS (MS for MultiSystem) they are equipped with the European train control system Siemens TrainGuard (abbreviated ETCS, acronym for European Train Control System) is an innovative railway signaling system associated with speed control. The Siemens TrainGuard 200 system, in place of Ansaldo STS. It is a component of the European rail traffic management system (abbreviated ERTMS, acronym for European Rail Traffic Management System) which is intended to eventually replace the large number of trackside signals, signal repetition systems and signaling systems. in the cabin currently used on the various European railway networks. in clear ERTMS provides on-board automatic train control functions and radio communication between trains and the command post or Centralized Traffic Control (CTC), which makes it possible to position more trains over the same distance while reducing delays by completely safe. In 2019, to modernize its 300 km/h long-distance fleet, Deutsche Bahn ordered 90 ICE 3 neo from railway manufacturer Siemens for a value of 3 billion euros, the last of which are expected to be delivered by August 2028. Until 'now it had always indicated that the express trains should be delivered by 2029. The Munich manufacturer managed to develop these trains in a record time of two years, which is short for an intercity train traveling at 320 km/h at commercial speed. The ICE 3 Neo has been used in Germany since 2022 and on international routes such as Belgium since 2023. A partnership with NS Internationales has also been in place since June 2024 and makes it possible to replace the ICE 3-M with these new purchases. Thank you very much for this very informative trip, greetings from Lorient, Frédérique.

    My theory is trains are usually on time until they reach anywhere close to Frankfurt (Mannheim, Munich and Stuttgart also) but the bottleneck is so much that the entire line is disrupted and trains have wait for platforms to clear up as previous trains have to halt, reverse and then clear out (Not the case in Mannheim, this station and its signal switching issues are legendary and just cursed) The Project to allow trains to pass through will definitely help massively in all of these stations.

    There are two reasons why Renfe uses its oldest high-speed trains, the 100 series, to run in France: - Firstly, because they are the same as the French Alstom TGVs. France puts a lot of obstacles in the way of homologating non-SNCF trains, so Renfe chose to homologate these trains identical to its own. Still, the French authorities put every possible problem they could think of. - Secondly, because once these trains were approved, Renfe decided to order 100% new trains to make French connections (and other domestic ones in Spain). The Talgo AVRIL. These trains should have been in operation 1 or 2 years ago, but they have had a lot of technical problems and it's only been a month since they started running in Spain. And they still continue to have problems, besides a confrontation between the company Renfe and the manufacturer Talgo. If nothing (more) goes wrong, in the coming months we should see the new AVRIL replacing these 100 series in France, and Renfe entering new corridors like Lyon-Paris. Thanks for your video.

    I took three rides with Flixtrain this May - and it wasn't good. I really wanted to like and support them because I like David vs. Goliath themed small competitors to legacy monopolists. However, the trains were not clean (even on the start of the line in the morning). Both evening trains were almost an hour late - in one case due to "repair works on the train" (nobody else to blame here...). The cabin noise level was very high, there was no aircon (with opening windows at top speeds at around 200 kph being no option). On the last trip, the delay was initially forecast to be a whopping 100 minutes (due to said repairs), so I tried to call Flixtrain about a refund if I took a DB train instead. I only reached a taped message that I was calling after their business hours. So while Flixtrain is a lot cheaper than Deutsche Bahn, you do pay a price as the experience can be significantly worse.

    • @Trainviking
      @Trainviking 8 днів тому

      That doesn't sound good. Thanks for sharing with us. To be honest, I'm absolutely in favor of DB. Competition might be good to keep everyone focused however i also do have very strong doubts about it, especially when different state owned railway companies try to compete (look what's hallening in France, Spain and Italy, a entire different topic on its own). However what I also noticed for example in France, is that competition by starte owned railway companies has learned that that budget travel isn't always the answer. Back to this subject, it's a pitty to see delays being caused by maintenance issues, I guess having a small fleet might cause this. I guess we really have to try to see how Flixyrain is developing over the next couple or years, including their expansion. And from 2025 / 2026 it might be worth another video from my side where I include your story as well.

    Hello just found your Channel and liked what i saw so will be watching more ,oh and i've subscribed😂 this is a journey i've done a few years ago but from valence tgv my home town,i've also been looking at going down to Barcelona flying end of august but by the time i get to Lyon airport check in etc it's roughly the same time as the AVE train then the cost ,all one way prices ,63 euros for the train only 28euro's to fly but add on the price of getting to Lyon airport is high there is a tgv direct to Lyon airport but cost is over 50 euros for a 30 minutes trip!! going to Lyon part dieu then the tram to the airport is also roughly 50euros ,and as you said that station is very crowded but i know it well so i have no problems, it seems like the area is always like a building site thats never ending,it must be over 10 years there has been work somewhere at the station ou very close to the station 😂😂 Anyway thank you for the video and will now watch your next one

      That's true, in terms of costs, the plane has many hidden costs by going from and to the airport, extra luggage, etc. France has this new law for no flights what can be done within 2 hours by train, this doesn't go far enough, it should be double. Somehow I guess the area around Lyon Part Dieu will be pretty soon.

    Great video. i like your detailed reviews. Just to add a few background details and an small corrections of pronunciations. The bran of Renfe's high speed should be read as a word: A-VE. This is usually the norm in Spanish, and many other languages, when the initialisms can be read as a word it is usually the way to call it, especially when it becomes a bran. AVE is a bran that does mean Alta Velocidad Española but as a bran was meant to be read as a word since AVE is bird in Spanish and you can see this depicted in the logo. It's like you sat Renfe, not R-E-N-E-E (originally initialisms of Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Españoles). For Figueres: Like in other languages (from Latin) the G can be soft or hard and before i and e it's soft so in order to make it a hrd G you add the U before, but do not pronounced it so it's Fi-Ge-Res (the end is pronounced more like RAS). For Girona, since the names are Catalan the soft G is more like a soft G in English but softer (closer to J in French). As for competition. I know some have reservations about it but,as you rightfully say, we should use train as much as possible and the fact is that the best way to do it is lower prices. The infrastructure and regulation remains in the hands of the government but private operators can use it for a fee, just like in the airline industry. As for the relations between Renfe/Spain and SNCF/France. Spain embraced open access completely making things as easy as possible for companies like SNCF, that operates their low cost Bran OuiGo while France/SNCF do all they can to prevent it or delay it. The breakup came from SNCF that without any problems continued their Paris Barcelona rout after it while the French government did not allow Renfe to do the same and demanded they go though a very very long process, even though they operated trains there for years. Finally they had no choice but they delayed the approval of the rout to Paris, and once again now as it was suppose to start now but will only happen (probably) in Autumn - after the Olympics (Spain's athletes were suppose to get to Paris by train). The fact that the HSR line to Spain is still not finished and the connection on the other side in Irun (Basque Country) is even further away is just more of the same thing.

      These are good trains for sure, honestly I don't use terms like best but they're absolutely good. To be honest I found some other AVE trains a bit better, although it's not a bad train.

    Hi, I'm looking for information. From spiez to domodossola, which trains should I book or look for? And what is the name of domodossola train station from where I can further go to Florence or Milan? Online is only showing a bus route 😢

      The train of Domodossola station is Domodossola. For tickets into Italy you can use www.trainline.eu I guess thus also works for Spiez - Domodossola and otherwise you can book those tickets via the SBB website.

    I spent several hours researching Wightlink's sustainability efforts, found them lacking, and will use the hoovercraft from now on even though it is more expensive. Only joking! Seriously I still find the hoovercraft more fun, never gets boring, and there are times when it is more convenient and, oddly enough, when bought with a train ticket, cheaper. Great video by the way.
